Session 2: The First Day of Training

A very tired pooch runs as fast as he can in the direction of the Rescue Team Association. As he enters the building he sees many pokemon talking and looking at bulletin boards. There seems to be a Piloswine behind a desk talking to a team consisting of a Shelgon and a Dwebble, Pooch goes closer to ask for directions.

"..teams are being dispatched to evacuate pokemon near the coast. The weather conditions are pretty harsh." says the Piloswine to the other two. Pooch gets closer "Excuse me!" he says, trying to get the Piloswine attention. The Piloswine doesn't seem to notice and keeps talking to the two pokemon.

"They seem to be busy" Pooch thinks to himself, and looks around for someone he can ask for directions. He sees a Sirfetch'd who is cleaning the room. Her sword seems to have a mop-addon she is using to clean the floor.

"Excuse me miss!" says Pooch, "I'm a new recruit and its my first day of training. Do you know where is everyone gathering today?" The Sirfetch'd looks at pooch with a friendly look and says "Oh! Take that door and go straight. Hurry up dear, everyone else arrived a while ago." "Thank you!" says Pooch, as he runs as fast as he can in the direction the lady said.

Meanwhile at the Training Grounds

"Welcome to your first day of training as rookie rescue teams." Pike says, he is standing in a small podium. Alongside Pike are 3 more pokemon: a Meganium, an Omastar and a Garchomp. In front of them are the four new rookie teams:

While Pike is talking Slash turns towards Sky "Well, if it isn't the loser who stole our victory yesterday." Sky looks at them with an annoyed look "Oh, its you. How was your nap after you didn't even touched the outlaw?" "Very good, thank you hahaha!" says Slash, then they turn to Riolu "What is she talking about?" they whisper. Riolu shrugs, he knows she's talking about how Slash got knocked down yesterday in their fight against the Shroomish, but wants to appear oblivious.

"ANYWAYS" says Slash "The reward we got from it was super sweet! Isn't it right Riolu?" "I guess..." says Riolu as he takes 94 Poké from his bag, he offers them to Sky. "Thank you for the help yesterday, this is half of the my part of the reward, please take it."

"DON'T GIVE IT TO THEM!!" screams Slash as Riolu gives the Poké to Sky. Sky looks surprised "Thank you..." she says, Slash starts screaming againt "CMON-" "Quiet over there!" Pike shouts from the front, Slash immediately goes back to look forward.

"Alright, I'm going to start the roll call." Pike says, Slash smirks and whispers "Oh you're gonna be in trouble now, you are the first on the list and your partner hasn't arrived hehe." "Team Helping Paw!" Pike shouts, two voices are heard "Here!" Slash turns back to see Pooch right next to Sky. "WHA HOW WHA" says Slash confused, "Team Shadow Blade!" Pike shouts. "Here!" says Riolu as he elbows Slash "He-here!" they say.

As the rest of the roll call happens, Sky turns to Pooch "What took you so long Pooch? Did something happen?" she whispers. "I overslept a little, it was kind of late when we got back, I'm sorry." Pooch replies "It's ok, just try to be on time in the future" Sky says. "I'll do my best!" replies Pooch.

"Alright!" says Pike "That's all of you. I'll now announce the instructors for each team." The teams turns out as follows:

"...and I'm in charge of Team Helping Paw. We'll start by getting together and discuss about your team composition and what your training will consist of." Pike says. Then each instructor got together with their team and moved to different parts of the training grounds.

The Training Grounds is composed of various sections:

Instructor Pikachu guides Sky and Pooch to under a tree and starts talking to them "Good morning, how are you two doing?". "Hello Mr Pikachu." reply both at the same time, like children in a kindergarden. "You can call me Mr Pike. And you two are Sky and Pooch, am I right?". "Yes sir!" says Sky, "Yep" says Pooch.

"So, why do you two want to be a Rescue Team? Sky?". Sky gives a step forward "I want to help other Pokemon. A couple of years ago we contracted a sickness in my hometown. Everyone was sick and no regular cure could help us." She pauses a little. "The only cure know for this sickness was a Gelid Flower, which grows in a Mystery Dungeon not far from town. I tried to retrieve it with a friend, but we couldn't do it. I thought it was the end."

"But then a rescue team saved us and got the flower. They saved the whole town. And that's when I decided that I wanted to help others like they did for me." Sky stops. "That's a very heartwarming story." says Pike, "Do you remember how they were called?". "They were called Team Smile, they were a Gengar and a Snorlax.". "Oh those guys are super fun, so cool that they are still doing well."

Pike turns "And you Pooch?". Pooch stands up and says "Emm.... money.", Sky looks at Pooch surprised. "Money? For what?" says Pike. "Well, two months ago my home was caught in a fire. So I'm trying to get money to repair it. Delivering mail doesn't pay that much and I know good Rescue Teams get paid a lot."

"My sister worked here delivering provisions and items to Rescue Teams in dungeons. But she got injured by the fire, so I want to do the same as her. So she can get better and our home too.". Sky looks at Pooch with a sad expression on her face. "I understand. How much money do you need to save Pooch?" said Pike. "100.000 Poké" said Pooch.

"Well, then lets try to become stronger so you can get there faster, is that ok?" said Pike. "Well, now I'm going to tell you a little bit about myself.". "My name is Pike, I'm part of Team Yellow Leaf with Meg, the goofball Meganium that's over there." He points at Meg.

"We are a Hyper Rank Team, the third highest rank. We also started on this guild as rookies and worked our way up. Now we are both instructors here and take on some jobs every now and then."

"Now lets start working on your training, follow me" says Pike as he stands up. He guides them to the combat section of the training grounds. "So the first step to defining what training you'll be doing is learning how you two fight. So lets get ready."

Pike chooses an arena with some rocks and ground. Combat starts, initiative is as follows:

Pooch starts, he stays behind Sky.

Sky goes forward and attacks Pike with Iron Tail. A critical hit! She does 16 damage! Pike tries to use static on Sky, she fails and becomes paralyzed.

Pike's turn, he ignores Sky and goes for Iron Tail on Pooch. Just as the Iron Tail is going to connect, Pooch uses Run Away and goes to the other side of the Arena. "Oh, you are pretty fast." says Pike.

Pooch's Turn, he tries to use his speed to get behind cover without being noticed. He thinks he is hidden (but he's not).

Sky tries to break out of paralysis, she succeeds.

Pike's turn, "I think I kinda understand how you two work." he says. "Alright, get ready for this." he uses Double Team now checks to hit him are hard.

Pooch comes out of hiding but there are too many Pikes to attack. He tries to find the real one and roar towards Sky. He succeeds! Pooch runs like a flash and roars at Pike, he goes flying towards Sky. She uses Iron Tail and hits! He takes 17 damage.

Sky's turn, she tries to hit Pike with Iron Tail again. She hits! and does 13 damage! He's looking hurt.

"Alright, no more games." says Pike. He jumps into the air and uses Discharge. Pooch evades the attack but Sky is hit, she takes 24 damage and falls down.

"Sky!" screams Pooch. He runs towards Pike and tries to use sand attack. But fails.

Pike uses Iron Tail on Pooch and hits. He does 17 damage and Pooch is down.

Combat is over.

"uhhhh" Pooch wakes up with a bit of a headache. He looks around and sees an apple in front of him. "Eat this." he hears Pike's voice "It'll make you feel better.". Pooch takes the apple and eats it, its very sweet and nice. He goes back up.

Sky is near him already awake, she looks a bit rough, but not that much. "Well, I know how you two fight now, and gotta say that its better than I expected. Though I have a few concerns."

"First Sky, you seem to be the Heavy Hitter of you both, you also seem to try to grab as much attention as you can as Pooch is fragile. What you're doing works great for most wild pokemon in mystery dungeons as they will attack what's closest most of the time. But there are two ways that strategy can go wrong: If everyone goes for you and if no one goes for you." says Pike.

"Let's try solving the problem for when everyone goes for you for now." Pike takes a Defense Scarf and Gives it to Sky.

"Now you Pooch. You are too fragile, and that is holding you and Sky down. You are scared on getting closer to other Pokemon because they may knock you down in one hit. Even though your ability to dodge is incredible. So" Pike takes a Focus Sash from the bag and give it to Pooch. "With this you should be in a better spot to do what you do. However, from now on we'll try to work on you learning a new move (Sucker Punch) that will let you attack at a distance so you can still help Sky. Meanwhile try to use items like pebbles and thorns to support Sky as much as you can."

"And Sky, your training will be focused on what happens when everyone goes for you. We'll try to learn a defensive move (Defense Curl) so you can stay more time in combat and buy time for Pooch."

And so their training began. Both of them started training in learning these new moves, but before they could master them a new job was assigned to them...
